"2025 - 26 Junior Audition SoloTranspositions for All Instruments"
Dear South Carolina Band Directors,
Attached are this year’s Junior Audition Solo transposition packets for middle school band instruments. There are nine packets, each containing twelve solo excerpts for this year’s Junior Honor Band auditions. I’ve aimed to cover the full chromatic range required for each instrument while avoiding the excessive use of extreme ranges. The transpositions for each individual instrument should match their actual solos, but for the other solos, feel free to select the version that best suits the abilities of each of your students. For instance: * Strong flutes will likely be comfortable with the regular flute packet, but for weaker floutists, the “Oboe & Mallet” packet may be a better fit. * For trumpets, those with limited range may find the “Bb Inst. Low” packet easier than the standard “Trumpet” packet. * Clarinets can use the “High” or “Low” Bb packets, with the “Low” one staying below the break in most cases. Better clarinets and Tenor Saxes should use the “High” Bb packet. In some cases, two notes are provided in different octaves—students can choose the one that feels more comfortable. All bass clef instruments (except tubas) should use the “Bass Clef High” packet. As before, I’ve omitted the “a” and “b” endings to fit two solo excerpts per page and reduce paper usage. Last year, several directors designed their rhythm curriculum around these solos to help their auditioning students prepare for county and region honor band auditions. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact me using the information below. Sincerely, Rich Moon moonerk@bellsouth.net 843-875-5594
